Oldies but goodies on the throwback record players

It is so funny how in some form or fashion history repeats itself. And now with the nostalgic trend of dressing more vintage, it is only fitting that we have Record Players with it! Records along with the record players are going to come back in a big way.

Maybe records are coming back, because, for the past 30 years we have been bombarded with all of this technology or maybe because there was an innocence about that time... who knows, but we are going to start seeing records again and many of you will be purchasing them.

The hipster scene, college students and pretty much all ages, races, and cultures will head back to the store to buy records. I actually think it is kinda cool that this era is circling back around cause I always wanted to be apart of the "buying records" era. So Trendy friends, with their modern homes will get together with their ultra cool record players and chill with their friends having some drinks and listening to past and present music. The thought sounds cool.:)

Since the records are going to come back, we will see actual DJ's on the turn tables.... YEEEEEAAAHHH!!! I really think it is an amazing art to be able to scratch by  putting different songs and beats together to make a whole different song!----RicKy riIkY RIkY--- Ha!My impression of the  the DJ sound.

This will be great for the Hip Hop community. With DJ battles and shows, maybe  the real hip hop can move back to the forefront. ***** Fingers Are Crossed!!! *****

When I think about records I usually think of the past, but records are still being made from all of the recent artists. So even if you aren't into to older music you will can get the latest artists.

Record players are relatively cheap from $97 to $200 dollars ( way cheaper than an an Ipod right?) and as of right now a record will run you about $8 to $ 17. And you can  get them cheaper. So start stocking up and be ahead of the curve.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced [LP] [LP Record]

You can go old school
Jimi Hendrix LP for $13

Keane - Strangeland [Deluxe Edition] [Audio CD]

Or the new Keane LP for $11

Numark TTUSB Turntable
This modern turntable is about $100

Grace Digital Tunewriter III GDI-TW3USB Audio system - Paprika wood
And one with a more vintage appeal will run you around $136

This will definitely be good for the music industry, being that music is dang near free. And I think it will bring a new rush to buying music, being that there is a whole generation that all they have ever done is download. Start buying now so you can get records and record players cheaper!

I told you!!!! Pinup/ Rockabilly fashion

Sooooooo.... in 2009 (refer to my earlier predictions) I made  male and female predictions saying that the 50's are going to come back in full swing. And now the look is finally starting to pick up. I called it the the "pin up" look, but as I see, it is more well known as Rockabilly.

I was all 50's out like I usually am... and someone asked me was I a fan of rockabilly...To be honest I really didn't know what they were talking about (Cause I always called it the pin-up look) but I knew it was the same era. So I said yes.

When I got home I researched rockabilly and before my eyes was everything that I knew was going to happen, was happening! Just for someone to come up to me and ask me was I a fan of rockabilly shows the popularity growing cause before, only the ol' timers would complement. Everyone else would just look! lol!!!!

I have been fashion forecasting for years now. ( As I said before it is a natural talent) and it really does feel good to see the visions come true.(My friends were the ones that told me I needed to start documenting my predictions, which is where psychicfashions came from) When everyone starts "dressing like me"  I change my dress style.Cause by that time I have had the look for a few years and the next wave comes to me so I am usually waaaaay ahead of everyone else (fashion). They may look at me kinda crazy, but I know in a few years they will look like me when the fashion industry says it is cool.:)
By the time that happens,
I am usually on to the next look.~~~~ ON to the Next One!! ON to the Next ONe!!
                                               Then the cycle starts again!\----
                                                                                              \----
\---- I will step off my soap box now. :)

This rockabilly/pin-up look still hasn't even evolved to it's fullness yet, but the movement is going upward. There are MANy MaNy blogs dedicated to this look. A plethora of video's on you tube showing you how to dress rockabilly, how to do your hair, how to wear your makeup. It is all over the place. When 3 years ago there was very little information..My favorite site which I have seen grow tremendously is pinupgirlclothing.com. It is a great site, you should check it out.

I remember 3  years ago I really wanted nylons with the seam down the back and I couldn't find them anywhere except one store.. Fredrick's of Hollywood!!!! lol Now it is so much easier to find some and they have modernized them with all kinds of designs.( They defiantly are your grandmothers stockings!) Also It was difficult to get vintage patterns then ( that weren't $50.00) Now the pattern makers are finally starting to bring back the vintage patterns, they will figure out the profit they are missing and make more cause even now the selections aren't very big.

Here is an example of how thoughts do create things. So I was always on the internet or going into stores looking for 50's dress patterns. I couldn't find any! Then one day my friend told me about "Free Craigslist". I was like... " People give away free things on Craigslist?!!!" So I looked not expecting much and as I scrolled down I read a caption that said something like ...*** Giving away free vintage patterns.*** OOOH I was on it! I emailed her and to make a long story short,  out of like 40 people she picked me to give them to cause she saw I was a design student and she knew I wasn't going to sell them. I have been happy as a lark since! She me about gave about 100 vintage patterns  from the 50's - 70's. Cool right? I'm telling you thoughts are powerful and either positive or negative your thoughts will not come back to you void.

Being in Atlanta,Georgia I still haven't seen many people dress rockabilly/pin-up on a regular basis. But I know I will soon cause a woman I know, just asked me to make her a halter-top swing dress. :) I'm sure there are city's all over the U.S where Pinup/Rockabilly is very prevalent and the ol' timers are getting a kick out of it.... They usually do when I wear my saddle shoes!...

I think the main difference between Rockabilly in the 50's and rockabilly 2012+ is that many of the women have tattoos. Visible tattoos that have color, and they are all over there bodies, mainly on there arms and chest area.

I personally think it looks cool... but I know later on in life I wouldn't want all that.. and I am darker
skinned so it wouldn't look good anyway! LOL!

In the 50's of course women were more  conservative.

As you can see their hair styles are being worn.
Here are some modern women and Original 50's.

A modern twist

Stars like Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera are rocken the style with a modern twist.

Angelique Noire Pictures, Images and Photos

I think this is cute and I think she kinda looks like me! .... Well defiantly her style anyway!!!! LOL!
I made a dress like this but it is red and I wear my hair like this all the time!

An interesting and cool fact: In Tokyo Japan every Sunday in Yoyogi Park all of the rockabilly enthusiasts get together dress up and dance to 50's and 60's music. Anyone who knows me knows I LOOOOOOOVE Japan!!... Anime.... the traditional culture... everything!!!! I'm even learning Japanese, so I had to put this in the post.

Still pretty and statuesque

Suave

The men are usually the one's doing most of the dancing. He is cutten a rug!...Well the cement hahaha!!!

Dancing away!

This actually looks like a picture from the 50's doesn't it?...Well it is from  Yoyogi Park in Japan.

So this was an I TOLD YOU SO! Post.  I have told people for years that jeans are going to go out of style. (They will still be worn, but not as much as they are now!) and women will have more dresses and skirts back in their closets because they are tired of jeans and want to feel more feminine. I have actually got in some heated discussions about it because people just can't see that happening. But my predictions are proving me to be right.. If you haven't gotten in on this fashion style you might want to start, so you can be the first in your area to rock this look!..... Just sayen...

This was fun!

Take care and always be yourself!

Prediction!!! Organic "Green" Clothing is on the horizon

So, the craze is big with almost a cult following for organic foods. Yes, food is supposed to be eaten without pesticides, perservatives and additives that can't be pronounced with the human tounge. Yet, many people have taken on the organic foods plight with almost a religous type following. Meaning, if you aren't like them -- All organic, patchwork clothing, incense, oils and alot of pot... LOL ( I'm joking) type people, they look through their noses at you. Don't get me wrong. I am a wholefoods shopper and I am a "tree hugger" at heart. I went that route for a few years. I understand everyone comes into there own at the time that is for them. But I am naturally a designer. I can look at anything and make it. I really do love the expression of fashion. So... to bring my point back around. I am happy for the Wholefoods, Trader Joe's, Farmers Markets and home gardens becoming big again because this is AWSOME for the organic fashion industry.

Why? Those same people that put a demand on the food industry to have normal organic food  are the same people starting to, put that same demand on the fashion industry. People are wanting to wear clothing that doesn't take a lot of chemicals to produce. People want to have the clothing that isn't taking up a lot of water or leaving toxic chemicals in our water system or on our bodies. People also don't want  those toxic chemicals on land that can be cultivated for food. As I always say, what is within is without. So if people are putting mostly good food in their bodies... what is going to be on the outside?... Gooooooood Cloooooothhhhiiiing!! lol

To a lot of people this is a bunch of rubbish and they could care less about any of the organic clothing or have no clue the great impact it would have on us.   Soooooo.. All of those people are going to go green by default; following everyone else.

We will  see the mainstream media start promoting organic "green" clothing. There are many companies out there that have eco-friendly clothing but the masses haven't fully caught up yet. But the time is soon coming where it will be common knowledge about these organic fabrics.

This list is only a fraction of the amazing qualities these materials have.

  • Hemp – This fiber is strong. It is naturally resistant to most pests and bacteria so does not require pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. It is resistant to odors and molds it is also very durable. Hemp can be soft or hard can be soft or hard depending on the weave. Hemp is many times blended with cotton.
  • Wool –  Is popular fabric is popular for its warmth and durability. It is both water repellent and flame resistant, anti static and odor repellant. Wool comes in many varieties such as alpaca, cashmere, merino, mohair and angora.  Wool comes from sheering of  animals such as sheep, goats, rabbits and llamas.
  • Organic Cotton – When cotton is grown under certain conditions it can be certified as organic. Certification requires crops free of pesticides, synthetic chemicals and herbicides. Organic cotton grown in the US must follow the conditions outlined by the national Organic Standards Board and Organic Foods Production Act.
  • Flax (linen) – Linen has become a generic term and can be applied to the blending of various fabric blends. Linen made from flax is highly absorbent and cool to wear in the heat. However, many linen garments are dry clean only.
  • Bamboo – Is a strong silky fiber that grows quickly. It doesn’t need fertilizers or pesticides. It has natural UV protection and is naturally resistant to many bacteria. It doesn’t pill and is very soft. Bamboo is compared to cashmere or silk.
  • Soy –  Soy fabric is new and is a  by-product of soybean production. Designers are discovering new uses for this absorbent material.
  • Ramie –   Ramie  has an ancient history. It has been used for thousands of years and it has been found in some Egyptian pyramids. It doesn't shrink and  it keeps its shape. It is  resistant to mold and mildew. Ramie is often blended with many other fibers.Ramie is 8 times stronger then cotton.  Ramie plants give high yields. It is harvested up to 6 times a year.
As time goes on, this list will get longer.  Many people are surprised to hear that cotton is not  eco-friendly, even though it is a 'natural' fiber. The truth is that more chemicals are used to produce cotton more then any other crop in the world. Cotton uses about 3% of the world’s farmland and accounts for 25% of the world's  pesticides.  USDA statistics report that, over 57 million pounds of pesticides were used in only one year in the US cotton fields. To give more information, the EPA has listed many of the pesticides usually used on the cotton crop are likely or known carcinogens.  It is understandable why clothing is going to go the route of food. Because we are putting just as much chemicals on our bodies as are being put in them.  Here are some pictures of the fabrics above. As you can see they are stylish and look like cotton. These fabrics will be in a high demand soon.

These shirts are made of soy. As you can see, it is a far cry from yoga clothing. Wearing Eco-friendly clothing will be the new "Cool".

Hemp is not not just for the pot heads! This is hemp clothing. The likes of Calvin Klein,Stella McCartney and Giorgio Armani have started making hemp clothing.

Ramie is becoming popular again in Korea. There traditional dress is made with Ramie and is increasingly becoming more popular.

Bamboo clothing! Which is my baby is going to be huge!It has amazing properties like all the fabrics and can be made into anything.

Flax(linen) is very cool and airy to wear.

So as you can see, there are many fabrics that are just as functional if not better than cotton. The time is coming soon so, be ahead of the curve and start incorporating some of these fabrics into your wardrobe and you  will be "cool" before everyone else. Then you can be the one to tell them that I was the one that told you!
